"Random Reflections 4.11"

In this episode we learn of Locke's inauspicious beginnings. Emily seems reasonably sane for a rebellious teen, I wonder how she loses her marbles and ends up at Santa Rosa? Perhaps Mommie Dearest gets wayward Emily a lobotomy to settle her down, as was popular back then. Think...Francis Farmer or a recently deceased Kennedy daughter. :-(

The Three Stooges are on their way to Jacob's house! This was so hilarious, and I half expected Ben to knock John's and Hurley's heads together or twist their noses like Moe would have. Nyuk-nyuk-nyuk!

Who wants to see a full-blown Keamy vs. Sayid smack-down after giving us a little tease of one in this episode?! Too bad Sayid is leaving the island.

Richard gets very ticked off at John's choice in the test. Is it because Johnny Rebel is not nearly ready to take orders as second in command to Jacob on the island? Perhaps Richard already sees the Loose-Cannon-Locke that we know so well.

Teen-aged John has serious Nerd Syndrome, and hates jocks while also wanting to be one. Maybe that's why he doesn't like Jack, because he represents the kind of pretty boy jock that John has always been jealous of. Too bad John doesn't realize that a guy can be popular and science-y.

TPTB want us to look forward to John coming face to face with Abaddon again for payback time. But why did Abaddon repeat the pep talk that the young therapist gave Locke back in the Tallahassee episode? Strange.

"It's clobberin' time!!!!!!" (I finally give in and reference the Fantastic Four like everyone else has)

Is Dez wimping out on responsibility again, or is he justified in not helping Sayid get back to the others on the island? I'm kind of disappointed in our brothuh here I think, it just felt lame to me. Let me know if I'm wrong.

Cue "The Ride of the Valkyries" for Sayid! I bet that he loves the smell of zodiak fuel in the morning. Godspeed, Sayid!

OK, since you asked (I think), Sayid scoots away as we hear the haunting overture of Elmer Fudd... KILL THE WABBITS, KILL THE WABBITS... which I just realized now might reference our little Orchid bunnies. Brazenly without asking, I put this blog on my Usual Suspects link, tell me if I should remove it. Something else, Manga Capcom, re: your old job. Do as I do, and revel in making comments about my CURRENT job through photos of Robert Mitchum. (Saw your comments from work but they somehow never got added, but for one). Bobby the Mitch Dot Com is really my way of sticking it to The Man. I think it might be Sawyer vs. Keamey: Bearded guy in long shirt vs. clean-shaven guy with man-nipples. Just a hunch.

Bwahahahahaha! Orchid bunnies...kill-da-wabbit....so good!!!!!! I like how your mind works. :-D

But do you think that Dez is copping out, or just afraid that he might miss Penny again if she happens to reach the ship? He does have a point tho about how long he's been trying to get off the island, so I guess that I should cut him some slack there. Where's his boat? Why don't they use that I wonder?!

Sure you can link me, thanks. I was going to ask you if I could link your pix of Chicago blog on my art museum blog. :-)

I see what you mean about your B.T.M. blog, and I like the tattoo'd fists post. Did you see that info that I put in the comments of the Vinny the Price post? I found the movie that's from, it's not the greatest movie in the world, but it is really campy and noir-ish fun.

Sayid looks like a midget compared to Keamy in that photo Capcom!

I like what you said about John/Jack, but I think it goes even farther. Not only is Jack the prom king, sports hero type, but he also is the scientist, the destiny Locke turned his back on.

As for Des, I do think this is a bit of cowardice. Going back to that terrible Locke episode, Further Instructions, Desmond is doing his own thing. He's being Every Man For Himself, though I don't know how him going back with Sayid would help either. In fact it would reduce the O6 to the O5.

Capcom said...

I agree on all your counts Memphish! I was thinking that too about how Jack is even all those things AND an M.O.S. And right, it would leave one less seat for someone on the zodiak, and I geuss there is no way that Dez would want to stay on the island to let the Losties get on board. He might as well stay on the freighter. Whew, now I feel better about that.

LOL, Sayid is a hobbit and Keamy is an Orc. :-)

I'm here! Things have been a little crazy for me lately! I just wanted to mention, I think the pic you posted of Abbadon and Locke is great, there's a poster on the wall behind them that says "Get Back In The Game." Lol! I'll bbs with a better post! ;)

M The Alien said...

Really quick, 1 thing i'm trying to verify for myself is whether or not the maps and logs that Jack pulled out of the bag that the heli pilot dropped on their return to the island are the same maps that we saw future Jack with in his apartment. Can't get over the fact that Ben had Halliwax's jacket on!

Capcom said...

Hey Alien, glad to see you surface! :-) Tx, I was wondering about that poster too. Interesting about the maps in the bag as well, I wonder what Frank meant them for? And does he want them to follow the locator on the Satphone, or to avoid where it (aka Keamy) is? Jack seems to want to jump right in and follow it, just so he can stay on his white horse and save everyone (I'm assuming). I really hope that he faints again for a while from the operation!

Desmond is afraid to go back to the Island for fear of not being able to escape again. I don't blame him for choosing to stay on the ship; he thinks Penny may be coming to get him. Does that make him a coward? Only in the sense that he isn't going to put the Losties' rescue ahead of his own. No hero here, he's going to play it safe.

"Kill the wabbit" LOL! Truly classic!

Amused2bHere said...

And I don't want to touch Keamy's muscles. I want them to touch me.

sigh.

Capcom said...

An even better idea Amused!!! :-D

Yes, now that I have looked at what Dez said via that angle, I do see now why he would not want to plant himself back on the island. He's been there long enough. And he can help out on the ship as well, he didn't have to go with Sayid to be helpful.

M The Alien said...

Lol, you guys are nuts! Keamy's a bad guy, that means bad muscles too! I'm surprised that there hasn't been more commentary on Sawyer's baby watching skills! As far as Dez, imagine his situation, not only being stuck on the island, but stuck in the hatch, every 108 minutes for 3 years, thats about 4870 "Execute" pushes. Obviously Kelvin did some of those, i'm not sure how long Kelvin stuck around with Dez, but Dez did the bigger part of those "executes" alone. I'd love to see a flashback from Ben or another other where we see them monitoring Dez maybe halfway through his 3 yr stint. Either way, alongside all of that, don't forget, he was racing around the world to prove himself to Widmore so he could marry Penny. So thats heavy on his conscious! The answer is simple to me, stay on the boat Dez!!! The flashforwards are great, but how about an Island flashforward?!?! I've seen enough non-island flashforwards, I wanna see whats happenning after the "6" leave. Additionally, I want and "Island centric" episode. What I mean is an episode from the Islands perspective, showing past present and future scenes. I know it won't happen, but dammit I can dream!

Capcom said...

LOL Alien, I suppose that his muscles would have just as much bad karma as he does! :-)

Yowza, now that you put it that way and remind me of how Dez was actually stuck in the station, I agree even more.

Yes, I've wanted some island FBs and FFs too for a long time!

Back when I was researching the concordance for GETTING LOST, I had to verify certain things as true or false to avoid putting wrong info in the glossary. There had been talk early on of both an Island-centric episode (going back to the Adam & Eve skeletons, the listening post, and Black Rock scenes, but really only as quick flashes) and even a Vincent-centric episode! Of course, we had the mobisode, but a Vincent episode along the lines of the Nikki/Paulo one in it's time span, that would've been cool. And we kinda did get an Island episode when Ben shows up.

On another note to, really, just CapCom (because I never reply to comments on my own blog, too time consuming because of my being crippled): that fall from the fence brought about my 39th scar, many of which came from my getting hit by a car in 1989. My left arm (the good one) was pretty much broken into Kibbles n' Bits, and eventually I had part of my right hip grafted into my left forearm. You're always welcome to email, so's I can keep from scaring away your other visitors :)

Oh, and certainly use my photo blog as a link, no problem. And spread the good word about Bobby The Mitch!

Capcom said...

Interesting info from your book research, Wayne. It would be fun to get an episode that starts out maybe with the Black Rock being tossed at sea by a twister and plopped down in the middle of the island, then four-toed natives running out of the jungle to greet them with spears swinging. From there the show could FB to earlier island natives and volcanos, and pygmies hair standing on end when they got close to the EM anomoly. :-) Or better yet, go way back and show a volcano erupting and a huge plug shooting off the top and plopping down into the ocean to form our floating movable island.

Sorry about your accident, wow. OK, I'll email sometime!

Hey Wayne, i've always appreciated your posts but never checked out your blog(s) until today. So I spent most of this afternoon checking out your stuff, pretty awesome! I'll definitely be stopping at the bookstore on my way home today. Thanks for refreshing my memory about the "Ben" episode!

Capcom, lol at the pygmy comment, you're crazy! It would be awesome to see the black rock arriving. I would've loved to have seen a scene on the black rock as they were coming up on the island, the camera pans left and right show all of the slaves down below, back on deck we see the captain, notably shaken by the events transpiring, looks over to his surprisingly calm 1st mate, Richard Alpert!

Capcom said...

Oh yeah! That would be fantastic Alien! Over on J.Wood's blog, it has been mentioned (by Wood or a commenter) that maybe Richard and Abaddon were both on the ship, and Abaddon was one of the slaves. I liked that idea, and it really gave me the creepy-willies too.

If you want me to make you a header graphic for your blog, I'd be happy to. Just let me know what you want it to look like.

Capcom said...

Thanks! Your new one looks really nice.

Thanks to m the alien, I'll post comments on your blog as you update. I agree, though, that Mike was on the manifest and it might not be all that suspicious for a big box (imagine a box, John...) to arrive for Mike, it could be his worldly belongings, for all Gault knew. And always enjoying the blog, capcom. Eight hours between me and the Orchid Station later this morning. Hurting pretty bad today, I wonder if the Island would let me get better or make me go crazy. Well, crazier.

Wayne Allen Sallee said...

I meant eight hours OF WORK, that should make my cryptic comment sound correct.

Capcom said...

I'm sorry that you're feeling bad today Wayne, I'll keep you in my prayers. :-}

I looked at the sneak peaks on DarkUFO and Sawyer840 (same three) and they are awesome. I'm starting to see pattern here tho, the show doesn't answer many more questions that the spoilery previews do! :-( Tempus is fugiting, and TPTB need to start showing some juicy answers! (she said demandingly!)

Y'know, one thing I was struck by this epsiode was just how well the young John Lockes were cast. I thought they fit him very well in all stages.

The idea that Abaddon would have been on the Black Rock is an interesting one too.

Nice post! :)

Capcom said...

Tx Jay!

Now that you mention it, all the Locke's did seem to posses that same clueless sheepishness that old Locke exhibits at times (all the wrong times!). :-)

M The Alien said...

Lol, if I was Locke when Horace says "You have no idea what i'm talking about do you?" (or something to that effect)My response would've been "Pssshhh, I know all about the DI!"

Capcom said...

And why did Locke act like he didn't know anything about the DI???!!! That was lame, because he does actually.
